Introduction

Xhosores is a genus from South Africa with only one species.

The paramedian grooves of the pronotum are complete. The pronotum is without lateral setae. The elytron has 6-7 setae in stria IV and about 5 subapicals in stria VII. Minor setae are present on antennomeres VII-X. The eye is large. Temporal setae are absent.

The hind tibia of the male is sharply bent at the middle, and the distal half is occupied by a very large, triangular calcar, which is adapted to a deep, nearly linear slit occupying the lateral margins of sterna IV and V. The hind tibia has two spurs. The middle tibia has two spurs in the female, only one in the male.

This page is a Tree of Life Leaf Page.

Each ToL leaf page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a leaf at the tip of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a leaf and a branch of the Tree of Life is that a leaf cannot generally be further subdivided into subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
